MEET THE OWNER

Practice Manager/Licensed Dispensing Optician and owner 

Amy Mullen graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 2002 with an AAS in Optical Technology. She is a Licensed Dispensing Optician and Medicaid provider for the state of Ohio. She has over 20 years of experience in various optical settings including retail, private practice, non-profit and low vision.

Amy established 168 Optical, LLC in May of 2019. It started out as a small private Medicaid office located in Independence, Ohio. The shop relocated to Parma Heights, Ohio and opened to the public in October of 2020. Her vision is now a reality, offering affordable eyewear in her community. 

Amy has a profound interest in vision disorders, especially relating to binocular vision and the use of prisms for visual field loss. She enjoys learning about new technologies and medical advancements for the blind and visually impaired and those living with low vision.

Amy is a former adjunct instructor for the Optical Technology program at Tri-C's Metropolitan campus and currently serves on the Alumni Council.

Industrial Safety Eyewear Outreach Specialist and partner 

James Mullen has been working in the transportation field for over 25 years and is currently a CDL driver and Teamsters Local 507 Union Member. He has a passion for on-the-job safety and OSHA compliance within the workplace. That inspired him to start a program at 168 Optical, which offers local truck drivers and union members a discount on prescription safety eyewear and eyeglasses. 

James and Amy have lived in Parma Heights for 20+ years. They both love spending time with their family and grandkids, enjoying the outdoors, grilling out in the backyard, catching a Guardians game downtown, and eating & shopping local. 

They now live in the home originally owned by her grandparents, who were longtime Parma Heights residents. Her grandfather, Art Phillips, was the manager of the old Mercury Theater at Southland Shopping Center.
